About This Event:

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, veterinarians are “the only doctors educated to protect the health of both animals and people…and they play critical roles in food safety and public health.”

While COVID-19 remains a looming public health threat, other diseases continue to imperil animal health, farmers, and the agriculture industry as a whole - here in the Commonwealth, in the region, and across the globe. More than ever, Pennsylvania’s veterinarians are critical to keeping tabs on these potential threats to ensure animals large and small remain healthy, sustaining the livelihoods of local agricultural producers, and contributing to a safe and secure food supply.

Hosted as part of Penn Vet’s ongoing Bellwether Sessions series, this interactive live roundtable – to be held during the virtual 2021 Pennsylvania Farm Show – will explore the unique, multi-faceted roles of three Penn Vet alumni and one current Penn Vet student while simultaneously spotlighting exciting career opportunities within the veterinary profession.

The event will be moderated by Joseph Bender, DVM, MS; Assistant Professor of Clinical Dairy Production Medicine at Penn Vet, who will lead an engaging conversation with guest Penn Vet alumni panelists and answer audience questions live during the session.

Penn Vet Alumni panelists for the event include:

  • Dr. Allyson Anderson; Owner, Headwaters Veterinary Service, Potter County, PA; Headwaters Veterinary Service is an ambulatory practice for dairy and beef cattle, small ruminants, swine and poultry
  • Dr. Meghann Pierdon; Assistant Professor, Clinical Production Medicine, Penn Vet; Chair, Research Committee, Animal Health and Diagnostic Commission, PA Department of Agriculture
  • Noah Shulman; Fourth-year veterinary student, graduating in May 2021, majoring in dairy herd health
  • Dr. Jacob Werner; Research Professor and Attending Veterinarian for Agricultural Animals and Wildlife, the Pennsylvania State University

Whether you are interested in attending veterinary school or want to know more about the role that veterinarians play here in Pennsylvania and beyond, we invite you to join us during this free event. Register today!
